Cougar families, let's keep learning safe tackling together! This clinic archive gives you some background on the instruction. If you are looking for a session for your player, ask the tackle coach for the next confirmed arrangements.
August 11, 2025 clinic archive: this Tip of the Spear event took place in Summit. It brought Chatham together with New Providence, Springfield and Summit. Keep that date with this earlier event; your coach will share instructions for any new clinic.
Questions about instruction
Tip of the Spear teaches tackling led by the shoulder, with the head kept out of contact.
Our tackle page explains football fundamentals and sportsmanship for grades 4-8. Ask your coach what a new clinic will cover and who should attend. Tell them your player's grade and any equipment question before making plans.
Clinic checklist
- Ask for the confirmed date and time.
- Check the venue and meeting point.
- Ask what clothing and equipment to bring.
- Confirm any forms or enrollment steps.
Send the confirmed instructions to whoever is driving your player. The old clinic's clothing list belongs to that event; use your coach's list for a new session.
Program and registration questions
Have a tackle or clinic question? Write to [email protected] with your player's grade and the session you mean. Include the clinic date if you have received an invitation.
For season enrollment, read the registration checklist and use TeamSnap registration. Ask the program about fees and forms. Private questions about participation costs can go to [email protected].
What to bring
For the archived clinic, players were asked to bring shorts, cleats and water, without football equipment. Ask the coach for the instructions for your particular session. Check clothing, equipment and any forms together before you pack.
Not sure about an item? Please ask before buying something just for a clinic. The archived clothing list did not require helmets or shoulder pads. A later session may have different instructions, so confirm its equipment list separately.
Regular practice and weather messages
Our tackle practices use Lum Field Complex. Equipment fitting uses Lum Field House. Tackle games and cheer use Cougar Field at Chatham High School.
Our 2026 practice schedule lists regular-season times and the three completed preseason weeks. Read the practice dates alongside your coach's current instructions. Coaches post weather calls in TeamSnap. Clinic arrangements need their own confirmed date and destination.
Thank you to the volunteers helping our players learn. Could you share some time with the club, too? Tell us when you are available. Ask the program which volunteer role fits your availability.
